Summer is sadly winding down and soon enough, the kids in Indianapolis will be back in school. That means sports, after school activities and the hustle and bustle of the fall.

But before the children head back to their classrooms, there's still time to have a little fun in Indianapolis.

Here are our top pics for five things to do before Indianapolis kids go back to school. Read on:

A day at the library

If your kids have been victims of the "summer slide," get them back into reading with a trip to your local library. Check out a stack of books, find a cozy reading nook and get into a wonderful book.

Canal walk and picnic

Indianapolis has a wonderful canal downtown that is our pick for a stroll and a picnic. You can check out all the public art on the canal and then enjoy a snack or lunch while soaking up the natural beauty.

Outdoor music

If you love music and summer nights, head to Fishers, where there are free concerts on the Green on Wednesday afternoons through the end of September. Grab lunch on the way, pack a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy the vibe.

Culture

If your children have played a few too many video games this summer, plan a cultural day along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. There are eight miles of art, historic neighborhoods and the city's cultural districts. You can walk or bike!

Park and playground day

Let's face it. The kids will be cooped up in a classroom soon so summer is the time to PLAY. Hit up as many playgrounds as you can before the school bell rings and maybe try playing a bit with your kids. When was the last time you went down a slide!?
